Other dental practices have waiting lists to join as an NHS patient. These lists can also be very long.

What can I do if I need emergency dental treatment in Liverpool but I don't have an NHS dentist?

You can get an urgent and emergency appointment without being on an NHS dentist's patient list. A tooth abscess, broken teeth, severe dental pain and painful bleeding gums could all be classed as urgent.

If you need urgent treatment and don’t have a regular dentist, or if you do have dentist but they are closed, you can:

  • Call Merseyside and Cheshire Emergency Dental Helpline on 0161 476 9651.
    • The helpline is open between the hours of 8.00am and 10.00pm every day including weekends and Bank Holidays
    • They will ask you some questions about your dental situation and if they agree you need an urgent appointment can make one for you. This service is busy and you may have a wait to get through.
    • The urgent care appointment will do short one-off care to help get you out of pain. They will not take you on for ongoing treatment.

What is the Community Dentistry Service?
