Statement on Lucy Letby investigation

Healthwatch Liverpool statement following the trial and conviction of Lucy Letby.

Our thoughts are with the parents and families affected by Lucy Letby’s actions while working as a nurse at the Countess of Chester Hospital. It is vital that lessons are learned so that something like this cannot happen again, so we welcome the Government’s announcement of an independent inquiry.

We are aware that there is an ongoing investigation relating to the full period of Lucy Letby’s career, including training placements at Liverpool Women’s Hospital, which took place between October – December 2012 and January – February 2015. This will undoubtedly be concerning to our local community but it is important to note that Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust has said that anyone relevant to the ongoing investigation has been made aware and supported appropriately.

Anyone who might have any information they would like to pass onto the investigation team at Cheshire Police should contact them via Operation.Hummingbird.Public.Contact@cheshire.police.uk or by calling 101 and asking for Cheshire Constabulary or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.

In addition, Liverpool Women's Hospital have stated that if any parents, families, or carers need support, advice or reassurance about the care provided to babies on the Neonatal Unit at Liverpool Women's during the above periods of time, they can get in touch with the Patient Experience Team in the first instance by emailing pals@lwh.nhs.uk or by calling 0151 702 4353 to provide your contact details and a member of their team will get back in touch with you.
