Sometimes trauma can make it more difficult to us to carry out life activities – including accessing health care. The information presented on this page and via the links below is to help you as a health care provider to consider what might make accessing health care easier for patients which are affected by trauma.

You may be looking at this page to be ready and informed if a patient does disclose trauma or perhaps because someone has shown you the card and you want to know how to help them. We hope that the information on this page will help you in either situation and can also help you think through how to apply a trauma informed approach with all patients, knowing that many more people will be living with trauma but not feel able or willing to disclose that to you.

The Liverpool trauma card project has been developed in response to a recommendation in Healthwatch Liverpool’s 2024 report on ‘The impact of Sexual Trauma on attendance for health appointments’ . The cards are based on a template produced by The Survivors Trust and have been developed in partnership between Healthwatch Liverpool and Liverpool Women's Hospital (part of University Hospitals of Liverpool Group).
