The NHS is holding a six-week public engagement between 15 October – 26 November 2024, giving people an opportunity to comment on the issues facing hospital gynaecology and maternity services in Liverpool.

The main issue affecting these services is that they are on a different hospital site to where most adult acute and specialist care happens. Liverpool Women’s Hospital is the only specialist centre for gynaecology and maternity in the country where care is arranged in this way, and it can sometimes cause problems and delays in providing patients with the right care and treatment.

Throughout November, the NHS will be holding a series of face-to-face and online listening events, where people can hear more about the issues from clinicians who are involved in providing this care, and take part in small group discussions where they can share their views and give feedback on any care they have received.

There will be four face-to-face events taking place in community venues across Liverpool, Knowsley and Sefton, as well as two online events, and people are welcome to attend whichever event is most convenient for them.

Further details including the date, time and location of each event is included below:

  • Thursday 7th November, 10.30am – 12.30pm at Kirkby Christian Fellowship, Old Rough Lane, Northwood, Kirkby, L33 0YL
  • Thursday 14th November, 2.00pm – 4.00pm at Bridge Chapel, Morris Hall, Heath Road, Garston, Liverpool, L19 4XR
  • Wednesday 20th November, 6.30pm – 8.30pm at The Quaker Meeting House, Institute Room, 22 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT
  • Friday 22nd November, 10.00am – 12.00pm at Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre, Lakeside Suite, Crosby Coastal Park, The Esplanade, Waterloo, L22 1RR

The two online events will be held on MS Teams on the following dates:

  • Monday 4th November, 6.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Wednesday 13th November, 10.00am - 12.00pm

(Please note: Each event will follow the same format, so you only need to attend one option).

In order to help with planning for these events, registering to attend these events is essential. To register to attend, and inform them if you have any additional requirements around access or language/communication, please email:

engagement@cheshireandmerseyside.nhs.uk or call: (0151) 702 4353 (Monday to Friday, between 8.30am – 4pm)

Those who are unable to attend a face-to-face or online event can still find take part in the engagement process, and can find out more about the issues and complete a short questionnaire at: www.GynaeAndMaternityLiverpool.nhs.uk

Once the engagement closes on 26 November 2024, all responses gathered will be analysed by an independent organisation and put into a report, which is likely to be published in early 2025. This feedback will be used to help inform what happens next, including the development of any proposals for how hospital gynaecology and maternity services could look in the future.
